-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: At no point does The Dark Crystal threaten to become a great movie. I appreciate all the work that went into its creation, but the lush setting doesn’t come with a compelling story and that dooms the film to mediocrity. Starring Jim Henson, Kathryn Mullen. Sony, $30.99, 3/6/2018.

- 3. The Dark Crystal: Collector's Edition (1982)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I can’t imagine that any folks other than the biggest Dark Crystal fanatic would want to shell out the bucks for this “Collector’s Edition”. For what it is, it provides a nice set. However, it doesn’t expand much on the previously released version, and it comes with a much higher price tag. Directed by Jim Henson & Frank Oz. Columbia, $49.95, 12/9/2003.

- 4. Labyrinth [Blu-Ray] (1986)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Labyrinth will never be one of my favorite films, and if it didn’t star my all-time favorite performer, I’d probably never have bothered with it. Still, it has enough going for it that kids should enjoy it. The Blu-ray presents very good picture along with pretty positive audio and a strong set of supplements. The Blu-ray doesn’t blow away the prior DVD

- 5. Labyrinth: Anniversary Edition (1986)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As with any movie that’s gone through multiple DVD re-releases, the question becomes which one is the best. I think that this “Anniversary Edition” stands as the most appealing of the four, but don’t expect it to blow away the old versions. Starring David Bowie, Jennifer Connelly. Columbia TriStar, $24.96, 8/14/2007.

- 6. Labyrinth: Collector's Edition Boxed Set (1986)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As the third DVD of Labyrinth, I need to address for whom – if anyone – the Collector’s Edition makes sense. Frankly, I find it really tough to recommend it to anyone other than those who a) simply, absolutely adore Labyrinth and b) have bucks to spare. Starring David Bowie, Jennifer Connelly. Columbia TriStar, $49.95, 2/3/2004.

- 7. The Muppet Movie (1979)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: ... I still found The Muppet Movie to provide a generally enjoyable experience. The movie lacks great depth or humor, but it was largely witty and compelling, as the gentle irreverence of the Muppets remains a solid source of entertainment. Created by Jim Henson. Disney, $19.95, 6/5/2001.

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: More than four decades after its release, The Muppet Movie generates a great deal of goodwill. It brings a generally charming and entertaining flick, though it suffers from some slow moments along the way. Starring Jim Henson, Frank Oz. Disney, $19.99, 8/13/2013.

- 10. The Dark Crystal: 25th Anniversary Edition (1982)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Since this set comes as the movie’s fourth DVD release, the important question becomes how it compares with its predecessors. In terms of film presentation, it’s easily the best. It offers by far the strongest transfer we’ve seen. Audio has been fairly consistent across the four DVDs, but this one is at least as good as the others, if not better. Extras
